Shadow Spider here was based on the Jorōgumo, a creature from Japanese mythology also known as “the Spider Bride.” Through the design process, the “bride” part got left out, and she ended being a more practically-dressed version of Spider-Woman. But I did want to keep the “Very clever, very clever” moment, which is what Jorōgumo say right after you figure out they are monsters but right before they eat you alive.
